During the November 8th maintenance downtime we introduced a method to allow you to easily switch between CCR’s software releases. We have detailed out these changes and updated previously published information here: https://docs.ccr.buffalo.edu/en/latest/howto/newenv/ Please review this prior to submitting any new jobs.
OnDemand changes: The original version of OnDemand was decommissioned today. The latest version of OnDemand 3.0 is available for all users at https://ondemand.ccr.buffalo.edu. You’ll notice condensed apps that include select menus for clusters, partitions, QOS, and accounts as well as many other great features. For more information, please see our OnDemand documentation: https://docs.ccr.buffalo.edu/en/latest/portals/ood/ For those that wish to use the legacy Matlab or RStudio desktop apps, please launch a session using the desktop app and specify LEGACY in the “Node Features” field. Once on the node, load the ccrsoft/legacy module and then the module(s) of your choice to launch your preferred software.
So that you can properly prepare, we are including information about our upcoming plans for the phase out of legacy software & systems:
November 8: Introduce method for switching between software releases. The system default across CCR systems is set to ccrsoft/legacy. Users’ logins are set to default to whatever they were previously set to so there should be no difference in login experience. Anyone wishing to use the latest software release ccrsoft/2023.01 must “opt in” using the method described in the first link. New users are automatically opted into ccrsoft/2023.01 as of August. December downtime: The system default across CCR systems will become ccrsoft/2023.01. Anyone wishing to continue to use ccrsoft/legacy must “opt in” using the method described in the first link. The AVX HP nodes (racks m25/26/27/28) will be decommissioned. June 2024: CentOS 7 is end-of-life and will be removed from our systems. CCR will no longer support the ccrsoft/legacy software release.
Software Installation Requests: Please request new software installations in CCR’s GitHub software repository (https://github.com/ubccr/software-layer/issues) by adding an issue. Include the name of the software, preferred version, and a link to the software website. Please do not include any personal information in these requests.
DIY Software Installations: See our documentation for guidance using EasyBuild https://docs.ccr.buffalo.edu/en/latest/software/building/ Need personalized help? Visit us during office hours Thursdays 11am-12pm via Zoom. Details in the first link above. Or submit a CCR Help ticket and we’ll work through the issues with you.
Updated Anaconda Policy: With the introduction to software releases CCR has made the difficult decision to drop support for Anaconda environments. This is in alignment with many other institutions providing HPC resources. We realize this may be a difficult transition for those of you who’ve used them in your work previously. We’re here to support your group in that transition. You can read more about this reasoning here: https://docs.ccr.buffalo.edu/en/latest/software/modules/#anaconda-python
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please submit a ticket to CCR Help
