Subscriptions are like allocations. These will show you what resources you have access to and what limitations you have to that resource (if any). All CCR resources (clusters, servers, storage, cloud, licenses, etc) require a subscription. All subscriptions expire at some point.
When users login to Coldfront, they will see a list of all the subscriptions they have access to and the expiration date of that subscription. In order to renew a subscription, the faculty member who manages the project that the subscription falls under, must take action.
To renew a subscription for the academic (UB-HPC) cluster:
Subscriptions for the academic (UB-HPC) cluster expire yearly. Faculty must update or renew their project to extend their subscription. Failure to renew your project will result in your CCR account and those of the students & collaborators in your group, to be deactivated. For instructions on how to renew your project, see this knowledgebase article
To renew a subscription for storage:
CCR provides each faculty group with up to 1TB of storage for free. If you purchase additional storage, your subscription expires when the warranty on the storage expires. Before this time, CCR will purchase a new storage solution and you will have an opportunity to purchase storage on that system. If you decide not to do that, you will need to remove your data off the CCR network before the old system is retired. We will provide PLENTY of notice before this occurs. At this time, all storage subscriptions expire in December 2020.
To renew a cloud subscription:
Cloud subscriptions are priced to allow a user access to 1 CPU in the cloud for an entire year. You may want to utilize more than this so your subscription will be used up faster. There will not be a date listed for a cloud subscription expiration. However, you will have access to see your cloud utilization and how much is left on your subscription. To renew, simply purchase additional cloud subscriptions from CCR.
To renew a subscription for a departmental server or cluster:
The subscriptions for departmental research servers or clusters are set to expire when their warranties expire. Please discuss with CCR prior to the expiration of these warranties. Once a warranty expires, CCR can not fix or replace bad equipment so it is imperative we discuss upgrades or replacements before the warranty on your equipment expires. The current policy is to power off anything that has a warranty that is out of date for more than a year.
