Accounts - All you need to know!
We understand accounts and access to resources at CCR is confusing! Many users don't know what they need access to, how to tell what they have access to, or how to login once they have access. Complicating matters is two factor authentication and the various ways to login and transfer files. We'll attempt to unmask some of these confusing issues and get you on your way to high performance computing. Follow this workshop up with the Intro to OnDemand and/or the New User System Tour workshops or recordings.
Recommended prerequisites: View "Intro to CCR" workshop recording and create yourself a CCR account following these instructions
Previous Sessions: Wed, 9/29/21 10-10:30am

Two factor authentication and SSH keys
Beginning Tuesday, July 27, 2021, CCR will require two factor authentication on all accounts (see policy changes here). Those users that access CCR's front end login nodes using SSH/SCP/SFTP will need to switch over to using SSH keys. After 7/27, passwords over SSH will no longer be accepted. This workshop will covers all you need to know about these two policy changes. We go over setting up your CCR account to use two factor authentication and how to use the Duo app with your CCR account (hint: it's a bit different than using it with your UBIT account). We'll also answer questions about using SSH keys instead of passwords.

New User System Tour
Are you a new user who's unsure where to even begin? Join us for this workshop where we'll give you a "tour" of the CCR cluster infrastructure. We'll show you how to find your files, how to navigate the file systems, how to see what software is installed, and you'll learn a few basic Linux commands as well! This is potentially a hands-on tutorial. Users with active accounts are welcome to login and follow along as we demonstrate a few basic commands on our systems. Not sure if you have an active account? Instructions can be found here to verify your account status

Introduction to submitting jobs on the CCR clusters
CCR maintains three separate high-performance clusters for UB - academic (available to all faculty, staff, and students conducting research), industry (business partners in the WNY community), faculty (private nodes purchased by faculty groups). This workshop will introduce users to batch scheduling using the Slurm batch scheduler, what resources CCR offers in the various clusters, and how to write a simple job submission script. More advanced job submission techniques will be covered in the "Job Submission Strategies" workshop.
